I've had an unbelievable week, personally and professionally. And not the awesome kind of "unbelieveable" but the "I can't believe this is happening to me" kind.
Here's a brief synopsis...
- Tuesday: Our external backup hard drive just...DIED.
- Wednesday: Delivery driver hit our building.
- Thursday: Ridiculously expensive front loader washing machine exploded.
- Friday (today): Woke up with a pinched nerve and drove to an appointment to find that I was in the wrong place on the wrong side of town.
On it's own, any one of these is icky. Together, they signal a crisis and crisis often leads to panic. When there's no time for a crisis you have to squeeze those lemons, make a hulking margarita and plow through it like the linebacker you aren't! I did find the sunny side in each of these "disasters" (it wasn't easy).
- I made sure I had time every morning (except today because I'm in pain) to go for a run and clear my head. I also made a point to go to bed early each night this week and to eat healthy every day this week. Win-win!
- I found someone to recover as much data as possible from the spent hard drive. I researched a new one (with more capacity) online and printed out the price sheet to take with me to Best Buy. As I headed out the door, I got an email from Best Buy with a 10% off coupon. When I got to the store, the drive I wanted wasn't available but a larger one was and it was $30 less than the one I planned to buy. Plus, I got another 10% off via the coupon. WIN!
- I didn't have to call the landlord about the damage to our building, the tenant next door beat me to it. When our friendly maintenance man showed up he assured us the damage was minimal and would only require a patch job. He also disclosed that this event was finally enough to push the city to handle the parking problem. We directly adjoin a city lot that is barely maintained. No resolution yet, but I'm calling this a Win!
- The washing machine has to be replaced, but both Lowe's and Home Depot are offering special offers on appliances plus free delivery and removal of the old machine. Not a complete Win...but could be worse.
- The repair to my car is a recall issue and it's a big job. Since I'm batting 1000 at mechanical stuff this week, I couldn't get mad that the dealership didn't confirm that I was to take the car to a different location. I rescheduled the service for another day. This gave me time to stop by the post office where I found an amazing care package from my friends at Salus in Manitou Springs, CO. Plus, I was able to get into the chiropractor for another adjustment. Back pain is greatly reduced, I have chocolate from my care package and I can now focus on what needs to be accomplished before the weekend without having to work remotely with distractions at the car dealership. Absolute Win!
How do you handle setbacks? Do you let them consume you or try to find the silver lining?

Oh Allison! I'm so sorry to hear of all of this. I called on a bad week, lousy timing. Please know that I am keeping you and your team at Bath Body Supply and AliMar Labs in my thoughts and prayers, and sending you best ju-ju for a speedy recovery from all of this. I have weeks like this too and you bolster me when I do. I am here for you -- let me know if there's any little thing I can do to help! {{huga}}
