Recipe: Old Fashioned Candy Cane Salt Tubes

You will need:

8 oz
Epsom Salt
8 oz Dead Sea Salt - Fine Grain
2 oz
Dendritic Salt
2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) Cinnamon & Clove Fragrance Oil
2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) Vanilla Mint Fragrance Oil
FD&C Red #40 - Liquid Colorant
D&C Red #33 - Liquid Colorant
D&C Green #5 - Liquid Colorant

Phase 1: You will need two (2) zipper type plastic baggies. Place all the Epsom Salt into one baggie. In a separate baggie, place all of the Dead Sea Salt.

Phase 2: Split the Dendritic Salt between two small glass mixing bowls. Add the Vanilla Mint fragrance to the first bowl and the Cinnamon Clove fragrance to the second bowl. Be sure to completely incorporate the contents of each of the two bowls before continuing to the next phase.

Phase 3:
We added the Vanilla Mint scented Dendritic Salt to the baggie containing the Epsom Salts, sealed the bag and shook well to incorporate. Repeat with the Cinnamon Clove fragrance, adding to the baggie of Dead Sea Salt, seal and shake well to incorporate.

Phase 4: If you want to create the candy cane/layered effect, you will need to remove approximately half of the white salts from each of the two zip lock baggies (taking care to keep them separated from one another so you don't mix scents).

Phase 5: To the remaining Epsom Salt in the zipper baggie, add several drops of D&C Green #5 (we used 8-12 drops). Seal the baggie and squish the mixture around to incorporate the colorant. To the remaining Dead Sea Salt in the zipper baggie, add 10 drops of FD&C Red #40 & 3 drops D&C Red #33. Seal the baggie and squish the mixture around to incorporate the colorant.

Phase 6: In a plastic salt tube, begin layering the Vanilla Mint Epsom Salts. We began with the green colored Epsom salts and layered alternatively with the natural Vanilla Mint Epsom Salts.

In a second plastic salt tube we began with the red colored Cinnamon & Clove Dead Sea Salts and layered alternatively with the natural Cinnamon Clove Dead Sea Salts.

Phase 7:
Cap tubes when filled and label before use.
